Accounting Associate
Newport Laboratories is seeking an experienced individual to join our team as an Accounting Associate. Newport Labs, located in Worthington, Minnesota, is a leading provider of USDA autogenous vaccines and diagnostic services, and was recently acquired by Vaxxinova (more information below).
About the Accounting Associate role
The Accounting Associate is responsible for supporting the accounting department with duties that may include General Ledger, Treasury, invoicing customers, maintaining and processing vendor invoices for system entry, processing incoming payments, or releasing timely payment. Specific individual tasks are assigned to each employee by their manager/supervisor to maintain appropriate segregation of duties, ensuring no conflicting tasks are performed.
Summary of Responsibilities for an Accounting Associate
- Process and send out invoices to customers and process payments to the proper accounts in a timely fashion.
- Review and enter vendor invoices and check requests and process to the proper accounts.
- May posts customer payments by recording checks, ACHs, and credit card transactions.
- Code payments to the correct general ledger accounts.
- Assist with inventory control processes and all aspects of cost accounting (cost estimates, job cost sheets, inventory variance reconcile).
- Communicate, coordinate or correspond effectively with internal and external customers or vendors regarding billing questions, account payable/receivable issues and resolution of issues.
- Perform bank transactions.
- Assist with facilitation and achievement of department and company goals.
- Perform various journal entries.
- Ensure tax is accurately and properly recorded on invoices.
- Provide assistance to the other accounting staff and act as the primary backup to various accounting staff.
- Completes other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Capabilities for an Accounting Associate
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and working knowledge of ERP systems.
- Good verbal and written skills
- Problem solving skills
- Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- Familiar with Great Plains or similar ERP accounting software is preferred
- Ability to work as part of a team across departments
- Attention to detail and the ability to multitask
- Ability to follow department SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure)
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work and meet deadlines
Experience/Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED required. Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Two (2) years of business experience required.
